I’m sure you have all been just dying to know how Bath City got on in their highly prestige Somerset Premier Cup clash with Taunton Town last night. Well… Bath lost 1-0, in the 90th minute. A 1-0 defeat from an own goal, where our defender back passed to an on-loan goalkeeper, who mis-kicked, hilariously missing the ball, allowing it to roll slowly into his own net. Yes, Bath lost, but somewhat shamefully I was rather pleased.
Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to win, but I didn’t want extra time. The 90 minutes had been truly dire. Probably the worst I have ever seen and this is coming from somebody who doesn’t just support Bath City, but Leeds United too! I can’t remember City registering a shot on target against a team two divisions below them. They clearly cared about the competition as much as the fans… not very much!
After the 90 minutes of turd, I just wanted to go home. I was cold, I was bored and I wanted to go to bed. The funniest thing of the night was some frustrated fan, repeatedly bellowing from the stand, “Get it forward!”, “Get it away!”, “Keep your guard up!”, “Let’s get some attacking going”. Normally, I would find this extremely annoying, but the fact the ground was virtually empty, the endless drones, echoed around the ground, leaving everyone rather bemused. Even the linesman took his eyes off the game to where the noise was coming from.
Bad luck, City. Good luck to Taunton. Enjoy your final against either Frome or Odd Down. Breath taking.

Leeds promoted on the Saturday. Bath City promoted on the Sunday.
Anyone who thinks it must have been fun, clearly isn't a football fan. One of the most stressful weekends of my life!
