I’ve been given the task – OK, I volunteered – of covering the afternoon/evening shift at work, to support with a system upgrade. I’m in work as I type this blog (naughty, naughty). Luckily everything seems to have gone to plan with the upgrade, so it is relatively quiet. I’ve blasted off a load of emails, dealt with a few calls and am thinking of getting a coffee in a bit, before dealing with some more admin tasks – the joys of covering out of hours!
I’ve also brought my iPad into work. I wouldn’t normally do such a thing, but Saturday is football day. Bath City are away at Eastbourne this afternoon, and I decided against making the journey ages ago. It’s just too far, not a great ground to visit (I’ve been twice before) and City will probably lose. If I wasn’t in work, I would be at home, doing nothing, sat on my bum, watching Sky Sports on the telly. I may as well be in the office, doing some productive work, while sat on my bum with Sky Sports on the iPad.
Before I left for work, I ate cake. Normally there wouldn’t be anything significant about this. I like cake and eat a lot of it. I am on first name terms with Mr Kipling. What was special about today’s cake, was that it was sample wedding cake. Yes, the cake from my upcoming wedding! We bought the samples from Marks and Spencer, to try and ensure they were good enough for the big day. Boy, were they good enough. This cake was the best cake I have ever eaten. EVER. It is soft, but firm. It melts in your mouth. It contains butter icing, but unlike your standard ‘sandwich’ cake, this icing is combined into the body. It is just out of this world. Mr Kipling may make ‘exceedingly good cakes’, but M&S produce ‘fucking amazing gert-lush cake’. I have never taken crack, but I am sure this cake is better than any Class A Drug you can buy. If you have been lucky enough to have received an invitation to my wedding, you are in for a treat!
To make this day even better, I’ve checked my mobile phone to see that Leeds have scored in injury time against Huddersfield. Super Leeds lead 2-1. The game is still in play, so no doubt the referee will play 50 minutes added time and Leeds will find a way to throw this away *checks phone again* they’re still playing. This is unbearable. *checks phone a second time* Leeds have won! Woop woop!
*** PAUSE TO WORK ***
All of the above was written some 3 or 4 hours ago. It is now dark outside and rather cold in the office – I don’t think the heating is on – I should have brought my coat! While working, I had Jeff Stelling on my iPad. While I listened to countless numbers of goals being scored across the country, my colleagues played some sport of their own. I can’t see what is happening, as the event is taking place behind a barrier, although it sounds like some version of office cricket, involving a stress ball and a bin. I would play, but I have work to do… and watch Manchester City against Chelsea in the teatime kick off.
It’s less than 3 hours until home time. Claire is picking me up from work. We will then go to the local chip shop for tea. I can almost taste the sausage and chips. Despite my cake-feast earlier today, I’m starting to feel hungry again. I do have some snacks in my office drawer. I am tempted by these, however am trying so save myself for my banquet of battered potato pieces and pig.
I’m going to upload this blog now. If anything else of interest happens, I may blog again – you lucky, lucky people. Oh, and Bath City beat Eastbourne 1-0, so my prediction of a depressing defeat was wrong – although it would still have been a depressing trip, because I would have visited Eastbourne.
