Thurrock 3-1 Bath City
Exeter 2-0 Leeds
Tragic.
It’s going to be a long journey home.
Normally I wouldn’t be excited about a trip to Thurrock in Essex to watch Bath City. Like any sane human being, what’s there to get excited about in Essex? In fact, in previous years, it has been an annual trip I have dreaded. However, as it has been over 3 weeks since I last saw City play, I am very excited about the trip – even if it is to the worst ground in the league, with the worst club house, the worst food, the worst pitch AND a place we always seem to lose!
Amazingly, despite having a pitch close to resembling a child’s sandpit, with more dirt and grit than grass; the club have announced this weekend’s game WILL go ahead – even after the snow, which has now no doubt thawed and created a lagoon on the already substandard playing surface.
As in past years, Thurrock is a relatively early departure – leaving at shortly after 10am. Whatever the match day experience or result, I will be happy at least to see some football!
It looks like the snow machine is working again and is giving Bath a coating of the white stuff.
Anyone who watched the Bristol City/Cardiff game this evening on TV will have seen the wintery conditions we are facing here in the West Country. Not serious enough for the Red Cross to be called, or even for the DEC to launch a charity appeal; but serious enough to make my trip to the office hazardous and for colleagues to be forced to miss work.
At this rate, I will be calling Aslan the Lion to get rid of this eternal winter.
Guess how I spent my afternoon…
