Yesterday, I made the 125 mile trip to Bideford in Devon for one of Bath City’s few remaining pre-season friendlies, before the real season gets underway.
I must have been one of just 9 supporters who made the trip – true dedication.
I was given the duties of writing a match report for the club website – an edited version also appeared on the Bath Chronicle site. I was asked to text a long list of fans the half time and full time scores. Most importantly, Bath City manager, Adie Britton, required the services of my wonderful iPhone to find out the squad number worn by one of our new signings, so he could be kitted out in the correct shirt.
Other excitements at Bideford included going for fish and chips, well… sausage and chips in my case, spotting a huge seagull and meeting Bath City’s new signing and Bristol City legend, Scott Murray. He’s a top bloke.
I also spent £3.10 on a bottle of coke, a packet of BBQ Hula Hoops and a Wispa bar at a service station on the M5. On the way out, I called 999 to report a case of daylight robbery.
