Tomorrow, Bath City’s adventure in the National Conference takes me to Manchester’s premier football club, Altrincham. While many would consider this a long trip, compared to last week when I travelled in Darlington, this is a local derby.
I expect a lot of waiting in traffic jams on the motorway – Manchester United are playing at home the same afternoon, with Old Trafford just a few miles away from where I will be going. Therefore, as we enter the M5, no doubt we will meet 75,000 Man U fans making the journey up north to see their “local team”.
Obviously a Leeds fan…
Never mind. At least they didn’t disgrace themselves.
Tonight, Bath City host Crawley Town in the league. As a previous blog entry made after my visit to their ground suggests, I am not a fan of the Sussex club, or their manager Steve Evans. More on Evans and his, let’s say “interesting past” can be found on Wikipedia. As well as on the BBC here, here, here, here and here… oh, and here.
Despite having such a lovely man as a manager, there are yet more reasons why so many football fans dislike Crawley. Not least because of their ridiculous high-spending on players, compared to that of their league rivals who generally survive on a shoe string of a budget.
I’m hardly in a position to suggest what music Bath City should play to them on the tannoy before kick off, but here are a few ideas…
Kanye West – Gold Digger
The Beatles – Can’t Buy Me Love
Abba – Money, Money, Money
Janet Jackson – The Best Things in Life Are Free
Notorious Big – Mo Money Mo Problems
A Camp – I Can Buy You
Dire Straights – Money for Nothing
An update on my fish for tonight’s blog. The goldfish I bought two weeks ago are doing well. I was originally worried about their well-being as it appeared they were not eating, or rather were being denied food by the other fish in their tanks. As they are not dead and have been spotted shitting, I can only assume that they are eating and are going to be OK – hurrah!
