The football season is back. Well kind of. It is the return of the pre-season friendlies. The proper stuff doesn’t start until next month.
So far, I have struggled to get too excited about the warm-up games, having only attended one match this July – a Tuesday night trip to Twerton Park where I watched a team, compiled mainly of unknown trialists, lose 2-1 to Hayes & Yeading United.
Tomorrow will be different. I am off to Wiltshire to watch City play Swindon Supermarine in another friendly. Like in the ‘real’ league fixtures, away games are much more enjoyable – especially if it is a new ground.
Not being a well-travelled being, visiting football grounds is one of the few ways I get to see new places in Britain. When Bath City eventually get into The Champions League, I will be able to extend my travels to Europe too.
Oh, and in case any of you were wondering, yes I have been to Swindon before. Like everyone who grew up in the West Country, I have been to The Oasis, for numerous school birthday parties. However, I have never seen Swindon Supermarine play football, so can neither confirm nor deny if they are a team made up of marine soldiers.
Could Bath City be facing these tomorrow?
