It appears that those Innocent Fruit Smoothies I have been drinking recently may make me healthier buy they do not make me indestructible (damn!). I learnt that I am still susceptible to “the common cold” (cough, sneeze, splutter).
I developed a sore throat on Friday night and since then have been moping around the flat with a snot filled tissue in one hand and packet of paracetamol in another. Only venturing outside to answer the door to my hairdresser and visit the local shops to buy food for dinner.
Today was boring. I sat around watching The FA Cup Final and Lost. I’ve finally caught up with season 2 and am at episode 21. I can now discuss it with my other friends who watch the series, as long as another set of friends who are following the show on Channel 4 are not about.
If you’re one of these people who watches Lost on Channel 4, don’t worry, there are no spoilers below. I do mention future episodes but nothing happens.
21 episodes later, 15 hours and 45 minutes of my life wasted. What did these people on the island accomplish in the second season? Not much. They pressed a button on a computer a few times for reasons unknown to us and that we are increasingly starting not to care about. A few people got pointlessly shot and we had about seven thousand boring flashbacks. I don’t know why I bother watching it but I will continue to do so.
I have a theory on how Lost is written. The writers are all ants in an ant farm. This ant farm is situated in an office in the basement of ABC Headquarters, in-between the writer’s room for “Everybody Hates Chris” and the old “Arrested Development” office, out of the way of all the decent shows. *
At the top of the ant farm is a massive pile of rice, each which a subject or character name inscribed on it in tiny writing. For example one grain of rice may read “Jack” another “Vision” another “Polar Bear”. The ants all carry the grains of rice to a chamber at the foot of the farm. Once there, the grains of rice are read in the order in which they were placed, each word on the rice linking together to form a storyline in an episode. For example “Jack” has a “Vision” of a “Polar Bear”.
A little far fetched I know but if anyone has a better guess on how Lost is written then let me know.
* OK, OK, I know ABC don’t produce these shows, but it gives me a chance to laugh at “Everybody Hates Chris” (an awful show) and wind Dan up about “Arrested Development”
I’ve been off work for the last three days with cold. As well as contending with a sore throat and head aches I have got through a whole box of Kleenex to collect the ongoing snot spraying from my nose – nice!
The weather outside didn’t help much, it hasn’t been warm (well, it is October!) so have been inside drinking hot coffee while playing Fifa 2006 (well… too ill to work, too ill to go out, what’s a man got left to do?).
Lunchtime today, pretty chilly, had to find something to warm me up. I managed to create a very tasty snack that did the trick heating me up and one I will definitely have again over the winter…
Take a can of soup, preferably one of those ones with chunks of vegetables and pasta in (the ones drama series use for vomit) and simply add a teaspoon of hot chilli powder (more teaspoons of you’re a sadist), heat in the microwave and you have yourself a very nice cold weather snack!
As for my cold, I’m all cleared up now (more or less) and will be heading back to work tomorrow. Not bad really, only two days to the weekend! :o)
There’s been no blog updates for nearly a week! Mainly because I’ve been feeling ill for the last six or seven days, am feeling a lot better today though so thought I should pull my finger out.
I was suffering from a bad cold and I was off work from Wednesday onwards. It’s one of these viruses where you aren’t too ill to be bedridden all day, but you are not well enough to do much else! The days dragged and I started feeling sorry for myself. I ended up watching shows like Neighbours and the Leeds United: Best of Europe DVD. It was certainly a boring three days; I certainly don’t envy the unemployed.
My savior last week
While off work I kept seeing this Crazy Frog advert on TV. It is really starting to piss me off. It is on almost every set of adverts not once but twice! I am yet to find anybody that likes this frog, I did however read somewhere that it is worth an estimated £10million!
I think the ‘Chav’ population must occupy 99.9% of the C.F.C. (Crazy Frog Customers) and in-between Happy Slapping on their stolen mobile phones probably listen to the annoying amphibian while drinking White Lighting Cider.
Something else I noticed this week was the new 3D Weather service from The BBC. What a crock of crap. The BBC have obviously never heard of the phrase “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. The new weather system looks too modern and unless you live in the far South of England would find it a lot harder to see the weather for your region! If you live in Inverness you’re fucked quite frankly.
Another thing about this weather, indeed all TV weather broadcasts, why are only selected towns and cities listed on the map? Here we have Aberdeen, Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff and Plymouth. Why the BBC feels the need to list these and not cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds is a mystery to me.
Lastly moving onto the topic of football, you can now pre-order the new Leeds United kit. Long-time fans of Sparkster.net will no doubt remember the problems I had last summer obtaining the shirt which I ordered online. The order didn’t actually go through, even though I did everything right! This year I am taking no chances and am ringing the mail order department direct…. Trouble is when I ring the hotline there is a pre-recorded answer phone telling me the service is unavailable!!!! It’s so infuriating the poor service of The Leeds United Retail Department. No doubt I will “eventually” get m 2005/6 shirt and no doubt I will have the same problems getting the 2006/7 shirt next season.
Finally I had to raise a smile today. Arsenal won The FA Cup, beating Manchester United on penalties. Man Utd had the better of the game but simply couldn’t score against Arsenal. Fair play to The Gunners, they had a game plan and stuck to it. Anybody who says that the best team lost is very, very wrong. If Manchester United were indeed the best team they would have taken their chances and scored against Arsenal.
When it came down to penalties it was inevitable that Manchester United would lose. The reason being they have the most amount of English players in their team and we all know how badly England get on in penalty shoot outs! It was in fact Englishman Paul Scholes who’s saved penalty saw Arsenal win the cup.
Well done Arsenal!
I was actually out when the game was being played and had the game recording on Sky+. I tried very hard to avoid the result so I could watch it when I got back. The result was practically given away to me when just at the bottom of my road I saw a sad looking Man Utd fan returning from the pub about 40 minutes late (just about enough time to cover extra time and penalties). After seeing this I strongly suspected the outcome and was not wrong!
I haven’t been too well these last 3 days and was off work Thursday and Today. I’m suffering from a cold/flu type virus, typical for this time of year. I was feeling so bad on Thursday that I was bed-ridden for most of the day.
Today, although still feeling bad, I was able to get up and wander around the house. I used the afternoon to watch one of my favourite films that I haven’t seen in years – There’s Something About Mary. Very, very funny film!
I also had a look into a new mobile phone. I’ve been on my current contract for 12 months now, so am entitled to a free upgrade! I’m very keen on the Nokia 6230. It looks great!
Leeds United are in action tomorrow against Cardiff. There is a lot of rivalry between the two teams, especially after the FA Cup incident in 2002. With Cardiff doing so badly at the moment, I’m going (and hoping) for a Leeds win!
My prediction: a 2-1 win to Leeds
